Eyelash Extensions 101: What Are They?

Put simply, eyelash extensions are individual lash fibers – either synthetic or natural – applied directly onto your natural lashes. Designed to fill out, thicken, and lengthen your natural lashes, one of our certified lash artists will use lash adhesive and specialized tools to give the illusion of naturally long eyelashes. These days, there are many types of lash extensions, varying in quality, safety, and visual effect.

Our ethics are simple; you only have one set of eyes, so we’ll never compromise on their safety. Having been painstakingly formulated by a team of physicians and scientists, we exclusively use NovaLash® products, designed to work with your natural lashes – not against them. This means you can enjoy eyelash extensions year-round, without damaging your natural lash, in contrast to many of our competitors who use industrial-grade, irritating adhesive.

As the driving force behind the industry-first, human-safe adhesive, designed to bond the extension to the natural lash, we believe that NovaLash® is the obvious choice for client-first, ultra-safe lashes. In addition, our lash artists are trained and certified to use physician-developed, damage-free techniques. Rest assured, you will leave with your eyelashes looking beautifully natural, your eyes instantly lifted, and a youthful appearance radiating through.

FAQs

In short, very. NovaLash® was built upon a foundation of the highest standards of health, safety, and quality, having established a reputation as industry leaders. Unfortunately, the FDA does not test or regulate eyelash extension products for safety and biocompatibility, and sadly, most of the adhesives used by other eyelash extension companies can’t pass basic toxicity tests. Not only have NovaLash® adhesives passed toxicity testing, but the team continues to fight for increased regulation of the industry to ensure consumers’ safety.

With the right application and products, no. We take pride in doing things the right way, putting each of our lash artists through the scrupulous NovaLash® training course. The NovaLash® application technique allows natural lashes to grow and thrive with extensions. This technique requires several different “separation” steps during the application process in order to maintain the health of the natural lashes, without interrupting the natural lash growth cycle.

Well, it depends. When applied properly, eyelash extensions will last the length of your eyelashes’ natural growth cycle. That said, your day-to-day activities, from frequent swimming to sauna sessions, will impact its longevity, although touch-ups should only ever be required every 2 to 3 weeks. Here at Blades & Beauty, we only use physician-formulated NovaLash® adhesive, renowned as the longest-lasting on the market.

Ideally, every 2 to 3 weeks! By staying on top of your in-fills, you’ll save money by avoiding splashing out on full sets.

Your natural eyelashes fall out every 45-60 days due to the natural growth cycle, before being replaced by a new eyelash. To replace the fallen lash, you’ll need a touch-up, taking around 60-75 minutes on average. You may notice that exposure to steam or touching your eyes a lot may cause the extensions to fall sooner.

We know that, for many clients, comfort is key. We’ll invite you to lie on our ultra-comfortable facial table and close your eyes. One of our fully certified lash artists will then apply an under-eye gel pad to cover your lower lashes and begin applying the extensions to each individual eyelash.

We see ourselves as perfectionists, so the application process takes anywhere from 1 to 2.5 hours, depending on the style of lashes you desire. Eyelash extensions are available in a number of lengths and thicknesses, however, a full consultation will be offered during your first visit to identify your goals, the ideal shape for your face, and the weight your natural lashes can safely hold.

Absolutely! We’re big on convenience. By selecting a waterproof NovaLash® adhesive, we’ll ensure that you can shower, swim, and exercise from the moment you step out of our doors.

It’s simple! Unlike other providers, you CAN get your lashes wet, use oil-based or water-based products, and put waterproof mascara over your eyelash extensions.

To ensure your lashes last, we’d recommend gently removing eye makeup with a cotton swab, avoiding rubbing your eyes, and scheduling a touch-up every 2-3 weeks. We also ask that you don’t perm, tint, or use an eyelash curler, and book an appointment to have your extensions removed – as opposed to pulling them.
